Day 1 | USA – Frankfurt, Germany  

Catch the international flight from US to Frankfurt, Germany.

Day 2 | Arrive Frankfurt  D

On arrival at Frankfurt Airport, meet your Peony Tours representative in the arrivals hall and immediate enjoy a city tour of Frankfurt. Discover Frankfurt's highlights by coach, crossing the river Main for panoramic views of the imposing skyline, dominated by the European Central Bank. Following the route of the historical city walls, pass the grand Alte Oper (old opera house), Trade Fair Center, and main railway station. Afterwards, hop out at the Paulsplatz for a walking tour of Frankfurt's old quarter, seeing landmarks such as the red-sandstone Frankfurt Cathedral, with its 95-meter Gothic tower. Delve into the indoor market and main shopping area, and see the Stock Exchange, one of the world's largest trading facilities. Dinner is served at a local restaurant.

Day 3 | Frankfurt - Nuremberg  B,D

Enjoy breakfast at hotel and then set off south for Nuremberg, the second-largest city in Bavaria (after Munich) distinguished by medieval architectures. Upon arrival, the orientation tour shows us some star attractions within the fortifications and stone towers of Old Town. Surrounded by red-roofed buildings, there stands the medieval Imperial Castle* (Kaiserburg). The Hauptmarkt (Central Square) contains the German Renaissance artist Albrecht Durer's House, Heilig Geist Spital (Hospice of the Holy Spirit), St. Sebald Church, one of the most important churches of the city, the Schoner Brunnen, the gilded “beautiful fountain” with tiers of figures, and Frauenkirche (Our Lady's Church), a 14th-century brick Gothic church. Later, stroll along the famous WeiBgerbergasse, one of the best preserved architectural street in the Old Town, lined with wooden old houses, bars, restaurants and galleries.

Day 4 | Nuremberg - Passau - Cruise Embarkation  B,D

After breakfast, transfer to Passau, a German city set near the Austrian border where the River Danube meets the Rivers Inn and Ilz. Travel southwest through picturesque countryside, stop en route for lunch at leisure before reaching Passau. On arrival, board your cruise ship and after settling into your cabin, meet your captain and crew for a Welcome Cocktail Reception before dinner. Tonight, the boat will sail for Austria's beautiful region of Engelhartszell, where the Danube winds through lush green mountains.

Day 5 | Cruise Passau – Melk Abbey, Austria – Durnstein – Vienna by Night  B,L,D

After breakfast, set off for Melk Abbey*. Take a guided tour to admire its highlights, including the Marble Hall, Library, and bedchambers. Next, sail to Durnstein and enjoy free time to explore the famous blue-painted baroque church and ruined castle, where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in the 12th century. Later, cruise through the Wachau Valley toward Austria's capital of Vienna. Upon arrival, enjoy a panoramic evening tour to admire some famous landmarks. Tonight, your ship stays in port.

Day 6 | Cruise Vienna - en route Bratislava, Slovakia  B,L,D

Relax over breakfast and enjoy a morning devoted to the guided tour of Schönbrunn Palace*. Later, enjoy time at leisure to explore the area around St. Stephen's Cathedral. If you wish, in the afternoon, perhaps join us for an optional horse-drawn carriage ride through the city (additional cost). Later, enjoy a festival gala dinner on board before cruising toward Budapest, passing Bratislava en route.

Day 7 | Cruise Esztergom, Hungary – Budapest by Night  B,L,D

After breakfast, enjoy time to explore Esztergom, once the capital of Hungary and still the center of the country's Catholic churches dominated by a vast, green-domed Basilica, sitting majestically on a hill above the river. Later, sail around the Danube Bend, where the river loops and turns sharply toward Budapest, Hungary's historic capital. After dinner, admire the capital's evening lights on a panoramic coach tour*, absorbing views over the illuminated city from Gellert Hill or the Buda Castle District, and taking a stroll around the City Park to see the fairy tale-like Vajdahunyad Castle.

Day 8 | Cruise Budapest  B,L,DS

A full day in Budapest beckons. Our morning tour starts with the sight of the neo-Gothic Parliament from the Chain Bridge. Delve into the UNESCO listed Buda district first, visiting the Fisherman's Bastion and Matthias Church. Then, explore Pest, viewing mustsees including the Parliament building, Heroes' Square, Vajdahunyad Castle, St. Stephen's Basilica, and the Szechenyi Thermal Baths, before a walk beside the Danube. If you desire, this afternoon, perhaps immerse yourself the hot spring pools of the Gellert Bath of Spa (additional cost). Tonight, join us for a foot-tapping Hungarian Folklore Show* at a city theater.

Day 9 | Cruise Disembarkation in Budapest - Zagrab  B,D

After breakfast, disembark and board an air-conditioned coach for a scenic drive south west through Hungary and into Croatia to its capital, Zagreb. Drink in the views of Hungary's fields, farms, and traditional villages before crossing into the lush heartlands of northern Croatia. Arrive in Zagreb in the mid-afternoon and after check in at your hotel, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Perhaps relax at the hotel or head into this history-steeped city to get a taste of its pretty squares, monuments, restaurants, and shops before a hotel dinner with the rest of your group this evening.

Day 10 | Zagreb  B,D

Get to know Zagreb this morning with a tour of the Croatian capital's highlights. Take in the sights of its Upper Town. Admire St. Mark's Church, famous for its multi-colored tiled roof, in St. Mark's Square, and take in the Cathedral, Baroque St. Catherine's Church, the Croatian Parliament, the Presidential Palace, and more. This afternoon, get time to yourself to explore and enjoy Zagreb independently, perhaps strolling the cobblestoned Upper Town's lanes further, or shopping for souvenirs. This evening, sit down to a convivial farewell dinner at your hotel, enjoying the company of your fellow travelers as you swap stories and thoughts of your trip.

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the US.
