Day 3 | St. Petersburg - Peterhof - St.Petersburg  B,L,D

Today, ride a hydrofoil* to the Peterhof Palace and Gardens*, set on the shores of the Gulf of Finland. Built by Peter the Great as another show of wealth, the palace and its fountain-studded garden make glorious sights. Admire the palace and stroll around the garden's showstopper—the gold-statue-adorned Grand Cascade fountain, constructed to mark Russia's victory over the Swedes in 1709.

After lunch, the afternoon is devoted to the Hermitage Museum*, one of the world's greatest art museums. View the highlights of this remarkable repository, which holds works by greats such as da Vinci, Rembrandt and Michelangelo, and whose main building is the Winter Palace, once a residence of Russia's tsars. After your visit and dinner at a local restaurant, transfer back to hotel.

Day 4 | St. Petersburg - Pushkin - St.Petersburg  B,L,DH

Another memorable day of sightseeing starts with a visit to Pushkin, historically known as Tsarkoye Selo. Just outside St. Petersburg, this grand estate boasts two royal palaces, including the Catherine Palace*—its top attraction. Soak in this 18th-century blue-white-and-gold residence and explore its main rooms, including the dazzling Great Hall and Amber Room, the latter coated with amber panels. Later, return to St. Petersburg and enjoy the afternoon as you wish, perhaps exploring more sights or shopping on Nevsky Prospect.

See treasures such as Red Square, Manege Square, Alexandrovsky Garden and Tomb of Unknown Soldier, together with Tverskaya Street, the Lenin Mausoleum, Theater Square and the GUM department store. On arrival in this pilgrimage town—the heart of Russia's Orthodox religion—visit the splendid 14th-century Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius and Trinity Cathedral*, known for its frescoes and icons, and see the Refectory Church and Church of the Holy Spirit. After lunch, continue to Suzdal for dinner and overnight.

Day 8 | Suzdal   B,L,DH

Sometimes regarded as the most beautiful Golden Ring town, Suzdal offers a mix of monuments, monasteries, and churches, all crowned by a 10th-century Kremlin. Go inside this UNESCO-listed complex, once Suzdal's administrative and religious center to take in its Cathedral of the Nativity* and Monastery of St. Euthymius*, and then visit the nearby Museum of Wooden Architecture* to see its outdoor displays of re-assembled medieval wooden peasant houses and churches for an insight into bygone Russian life. Next, visit the Pokrovsky Monastery* before enjoying the afternoon at leisure.
