Catch your trans-Atlantic flight today in the US and fly to Budapest to start your river cruise tour through central Europe.

Budapest

Arrive in Budapest, Hungary’s historical capital, and one of Europe’s grandest cities. Sometimes called the “City of Baths,” this multi-faceted city boasts an impressive array of thermal bathhouses, some of them dating back to the 1500s. On arrival at Budapest international airport, meet your guide and enjoy a convenient transfer to your downtown hotel. After checking in or leaving your luggage here, bring your swimwear with you and begin your explorations of Budapest in fitting style—with a visit to one of its ornate Thermal Baths*. This evening, relax over dinner at a local restaurant accompanied by a live folklore show.

Budapest—Szentendre—Danube River Cruise

Lying just north of Budapest, the medieval town of Szentendre—whose name translates as “St. Andrew’s”—is renowned for its ancient walls, cobbled squares, and as a center of Hungarian art. Today, enjoy a tour of Szentendre, seeing its Margit Kovacs’ Museum—housing the works of Hungary’s celebrated late ceramist and sculptor— before strolling around the center and browsing the shops, many selling local embroidery and pottery. After lunch, transfer to the port to board your cruise ship. After settling into your cabin, enjoy a welcome cocktail and dinner on board. Later, travel by coach to a downtown theater for a Traditional Evening in Budapest*—a vibrant folkloric show featuring Hungary’s regional gypsy dances and music.

Budapest—Bratislava, Slovakia—Danube River Cruise

After breakfast, enjoy a panoramic Tour of Budapest*, which was divided into two cities—Buda and Pest—before they were merged in 1873. Cross the Elizabeth Bridge to the Buda Castle Quarter and enjoy sweeping city and Danube views from the Fisherman’s Bastion terrace. Next, see the Matthias Church, the coronation site of many of Hungary’s kings— including the Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife “Sisi” in 1867— and enjoy a coach tour of Pest on the Danube’s opposite banks. Pass Heroes’ Square, the Szechenyi Baths, Andrassy Avenue, and St. Stephen's Basilica, and finish with a stroll beside the Danube to admire the Gothic-style Parliament before spending the afternoon aboard your ship as it cruises toward Bratislava.

Bratislava—Vienna, Austria—Danube River Cruise

Arrive in Slovakia’s delightful capital and set out on a panoramic Tour of Bratislava*. Gaze at the exterior of Bratislava Castle before exploring the cobbled Old Town on foot. Walk through Michael's Gate and explore the Main Square to see its elegant buildings, including Bratislava Town Hall. View the Primate's Palace, and after some free time, return to your ship and cruise toward Vienna, where after dinner, you’ll enjoy a panoramic Tour of Vienna by Night*. Vienna—Danube River Cruise

Start today with a Tour of Vienna and Schonbrunn Palace*, enjoy a guided look at some of the rooms of what was the Habsburgs’ summer residence. Wander the gardens before enjoying some free time in the city’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral area and lunch back at your ship. This afternoon, set out on a Tour of the Hofburg, Residency of the Habsburgs and Sisi Museum* formerly the principal palace of the Habsburgs. Climb the Emperor's Staircase to the Sisi Museum to see exhibits showcasing Sisi’s private life, and explore the Imperial Apartments, where the Emperor Franz Joseph had his official and private rooms. Wachau Valley – Durnstein – Melk – Passau – Danube River Cruise

This morning, cruise through the Wachau Valley, considered the Danube’s most beautiful stretch, before arriving in Melk for a Transfer to Durnstein & Tour of the Village*. Admire the Wachau’s scenery on a coach journey to Durnstein, where Richard the Lionheart was once held captive. Enjoy free time to stroll Durnstein’s lanes and taste its locally produced wines and popular apricot liqueur, before an afternoon Tour of Melk Abbey*. Passau, Germany—Disembarkation—Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic

Following breakfast, journey west to Nuremberg in Germany, stopping for lunch in Regensburg en route. Nuremberg—Rothenburg—Frankfurt

This morning, journey north along Germany’s famous “Romantic Road” to Rothenburg, a town renowned for its chocolate-box Old Town. Take an orientation tour of Rothenburg to view its top sights, including its well-preserved medieval walls, Market Square, Town Hall (Rathaus), Councillors’ Tavern (Ratstrinkstube), and St. George’s Fountain. Afterward, continue to Frankfurt, probably Germany’s most cosmopolitan city and one of Europe’s commercial and financial hubs. Here, embark on a brief panoramic tour of Frankfurt to observe its graceful baroque architecture, bustling squares and Gothic St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, the latter crowned by a soaring 19th-century spire. Make the most of your last night this evening with a delicious Farewell Dinner.
