Your China vacation starts as you board the international flight bound for Beijing, China's bustling capital. Spend the night aboard the plane.
Arrive in Beijing. After clearing customs and retrieving your baggage, meet your guide at Beijing airport and relax with a convenient transfer to your hotel.
After breakfast, our introductory Beijing tour starts with a visit to Tiananmen Square, the world’s biggest public square followed by the Forbidden City, the enigmatic residence of 24 emperors. This UNESCO World Heritage site is girded by 10-meter high walls and consists of more than 8,000 rooms, all exuding imperial majesty. Later, visit the captivating UNESCO-protected Summer Palace. Walk around this entrancing park, to view the elaborate bridges, temples, and pagodas that flank Kunming Lake. Afterward, we stop at the bustling Qianmen Street. In the evening enjoy a delicious meal at a local cuisine restaurant.

After breakfast at your hotel, travel to the Great Wall or "Long Wall of Ten Thousand Li" as it's named in old Chinese. Built over 2,000 years ago to stave off nomadic invasions from the north, the vast wall trails for over 5,500 miles across China like an imperial dragon. Stride along the battlements and behold the views over the mountains and valleys stretching into the distance. Cap your day with photo stops at the imposing Bird's Nest and Water Cube stadiums, built for the 2008 Olympics. Tonight indulge your palate with a traditional Peking Duck Banquet for dinner.

Today’s sightseeing starts at the Temple of Heaven*, a fascinating complex of imperial cult buildings centered on a sacrificial altar pavilion. Constructed in the early 15th century, the temple compound was used by China’s emperors to perform animal sacrifices that they believed would secure bountiful harvests. Admire the halls and pavilions before catching a short flight to Xian and arriving at your hotel in time for dinner tonight.

Once China’s capital and the eastern terminus of the Silk Road, the vibrant city of Xian dates back 3,000 years and is best known as the home of the Terracotta Warriors. Unearthed by farm workers in 1974, this 6,000-strong mass of carved life-size soldiers and horses represent the real army that guarded China’s first emperor, Qin Shih Huang, and were interred with his tomb in 200 BC. After viewing the ranks of warriors, neatly arranged in the battle order of the time, visit the nearby Mausoleum of Qinshihuang*. Afterward, return to the city limits for a view of the ancient city wall. After a mouthwatering imperial dumpling banquet, enjoy a Tang Dynasty Stage Show.

Take a flight to Shanghai, China’s largest city, and board a coach to Hangzhou, with a stop at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda* overlooking the ancient Bell Tower. Arrive in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province and a popular tourist spot for its West Lake—an iconic lake celebrated by China’s poets and artists down the centuries. This evening enjoys a dinner of tasty local cuisine.

Begin your time in this garden city with a scenic cruise on the West Lake*. Absorb the timeless calm and Hangzhou’s forested hills as you glide by shores dotted with willows, pagodas, and bridges, afterward visit two of the ten most beautiful sites around West Lake, “Fish Viewing at the Flower Pond” and “Winery Yard and Lotus Pool”. Later travel on to Wuxi, in the evening enjoy relaxing dinner at a local restaurant.

This morning visit the beautiful Yuantoudu Park* and Lake Tai, the third largest lake in China. Afterward depart for Suzhou, a picturesque city known as the “Venice of the East”. Built around Grand Canal, owing to its many picturesque classical gardens, Suzhou is also known as the “Garden City”. After enjoying Suzhou local cuisine for lunch, enjoy a city tour of Suzhou featuring visits to Lingering Garden* and Hanshan Temple*, overlooking the Tiger Hill and pass by the Grand Canal. Today's tour ends in Suzhou, from there travel by coach to cosmopolitan Shanghai.

This morning after breakfast, enjoy a city sightseeing tour of Shanghai’s landmarks. Head to the famous Bund waterfront to admire its stately colonial-era buildings—many of them in Art Déco style—and its views over the skyscraper-packed Pudong district on the opposite banks of the Huangpu River. Stroll around the exquisite Yu Garden*—a classical garden dating to the time of the Ming dynasty—and visit the City God Temple Bazaar, where streets filled with stalls, shops, and restaurants surround an ornate 600-year-old Taoist temple in the heart of old Shanghai. After visiting the Shanghai Museum (no audio service), the remainder of the day is free for you to relax and enjoy any last explorations of the city.
